How Miracle University Pushouts Will Succeed
Research Based Practices on Effective Instruction and Creating a Culture of Wellness
Miracle University will be based on research-based practices that make a difference at innovative schools such as ELITE Public Schools under Dr. Ramona Bishop, KIPP, Fortune Schools, St. Hope, Aspire, UnCommon, Harlem Children’s Zone, and other successful programs.
Student to Teacher Ratio
The classes will have a 20:1 student to teacher ratio. For 500 incoming 9th grade students, there will be 25 teachers. For 4000 students, there will be 200 teachers.
Individualized Plan for Success including Flexible Schedules for Students
Every student will have an individualized plan for success towards reaching his or her dreams. The personal mentor will ensure that the student follows the success plan. While most students will attend a typical school day from 8:30-3:30pm, some students may need a modified class schedule to accommodate their needs.
Real World Internships
All students will participate in 4 days of academics in the classroom and 1 day a week for internships tied to their career of interest.
Online or Hybrid Learning Option Available
Some students may do better in a hybrid or online learning. There will be teachers who conduct online class for those students who need this type of instruction.
Mandatory Tutoring
Any student who scores below an 80% will have to attend after school tutoring until they make sufficient progress towards mastery. Mentors, teachers and administrators will collectively make sure every student is held to a these expectations. Teachers and tutors will be paid for supporting students during these after school classes.
We cannot wait until 4,000 9th grade “Pushouts” in Sacramento drop out of school and fall into the pipeline from school to crime, incarceration, poverty, homelessness, lower life expectancy, and cost the society billions of dollars in lost wages and health care expenses
